1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide employees of Styrenix with clear
guidelines about the use of social media in the context of their employment with the
company.
The policy also extends to contractors in the context of their work on behalf of
Styrenix.
2.0 Scope
The policy covers access to and use of social media via company devices (including
desktop computers, laptops, mobile phones or other hand-held devices) and/or
personal devices whilst on company premises.
The policy covers any internet or other communications platform that allows you to
post or share information that could be seen by many people (including so called
.
(but are not limited to) popular sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube,
Snapchat, WeChat and WhatsApp.
Styrenix maintains several.
LinkedIn and WeChat, which are controlled by approved Content Managers.
3.0 Key principles
The policy is based on a set of ten straightforward principles designed to ensure that
employees/ contractors using social media in the context of their employment with/
on behalf of Styrenix do so in a manner that protects the
good reputation of Styrenix and does not compromise the
security of its assets, people or information.
1. You are expected to limit your use of social media to matters that are
unrelated to your employment with/on behalf of Styrenix unless
you are specifically authorised to do so by the company.
2. Access to social media on company devices or your own device must be
done on your own time and restricted to during recognised break times if in
work hours. You must adhere to site specific safety rules at all times, for
example not using mobile devices whilst walking or in restricted plant
areas.
3. Do not create any social media account in the name of Styrenix or in such a way, for example using images or logos that could
reasonably be perceived as an official company account. This includes
public or closed groups or networks.
4. Do not post material about Styrenix on social media
sites. This includes direct references through text or pictures, or indirect
references that make it obvious you are referring to the company.
5. Specifically, do not use or disclose restricted, embargoed, confidential or
proprietary information, including trade secrets, operational status,
financial information and business sensitive information about Styrenix or its customers, contractors and suppliers.
6. Do not use mobile phones or other devices to take images or videos of our
operations, assets, equipment or people at any Styrenix
site and certainly do not post any such images (whether current or historic)
on social media.
7. You are permitted to respond to posts Styrenix makes
on its official social media accounts
- so long as in doing so you do not bring the good
reputation of Styrenix into question. In responding to
posts, you are not permitted to include any additional information about the
company or its operations in your comments section.
8. Whether on company time or your own time, do not post or share material
with or about a fellow employee, customer or supplier that could amount to
bullying, harassment or discrimination on any grounds (including but not
limited to gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, race, ethnicity or
religion).
9. If you have questions, concerns or issues regarding the company, the
correct way to address these is through your line manager, or if you prefer
via HR, not through social media.
10. You must not post job vacancies on social media, e.g. LinkedIn, without
the express permission of HR.
The above principles are not exhaustive, and you are expected to use your common
sense and good judgment to ensure you do not misuse social media. Failure to
comply with the above principles may result in disciplinary action up to and including
dismissal.
